Hey guys, long time no post (since last year around this time, actually!) I have been mainly working in traditional mediums in college, doing lots of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and whatnot, but until I finally get a decent camera I can't really take quality pictures to put up on here. There's some stuff on my tumblr, though-- you should all follow me there, I update it a bit more frequently!
Anyways, this was my Secret Santa 2013 piece at Pixelation, done for tim. Some of his interests were Art Nouveau and Art Deco, so I created a pixel art piece that invoked the style of Alphonse Mucha (and a little bit of modern artist, John Baizley of metal band Baroness, who uses a similar style.) Mucha was an commercial artist of the 1800s who used a heavily graphical style which was rich in color and had tons of patterns and design elements. His work often depicted women in rich, bountiful areas, and with this knowledge and inspiration I created this "woman of the flowers." This was definitely hard to achieve with pixel art-- as Mucha's stuff was usually done by lithograph or painting, trying to achieve a similar style with pixels was a lot of work. My art history teacher told me he would've believed it was a 19th century artwork if I hadn't told him otherwise, and tim loved it, so overall I'm pretty happy with it, but there are definitely some areas I'd like to continue to touch up and whatnot, so I might be updating this sporadically.
In either case, I've still got like three large pixel arts in the works to be finished this year, so hopefully you'll see a bit more of me in 2014. Here's to hoping I also get a quality camera soon, too (I think I've been saying this for like, 4 years, so don't cross your fingers.) Hope everyone's been doing well!
